Days after two rain-related wall collapse tragedies in Bengaluru claimed eight lives, another fatal incident has occurred amid the continuing downpour.
Two workers were killed after a wall collapsed on them, marking the third such rain-triggered disaster in the city within a week.
The latest tragedy comes in the wake of the collapse of the compound wall of Bengaluru’s Bowring Hospital, which killed seven people during heavy rains.
Subsequently, on May 29,an autorickshaw driver lost his life when the compound wall of a club in Vijayanagar caved in.
With the fresh incident claiming two more lives, concerns are mounting over the safety of ageing and weakened structures across the city during the monsoon season.
Authorities are expected to inspect vulnerable buildings and compound walls to prevent further loss of life.
The recurring incidents have raised questions about preparedness and structural safety measures as Bengaluru continues to witness intense rainfall.
The accident occurred at a site belonging to a person identified as Patel, where construction workers were engaged in building a wall.
According to preliminary information, the workers were carrying out the construction work when the structure suddenly gave way, allegedly weakened by the continuous rainfall.
