Couple killed as gas truck rams into bike in Bengaluru

A couple who were going to attend a wedding were killed in a road accident involving a bike and a cylinder truck under the Yeshwanthpur Traffic Police limits on Thursday afternoon

The deceased have been identified as Shahabas(28) and Shabreen Taj (25),residents of Chikkabasthi,Ullal.The couple had been married for five years and were running a provision store in the locality.

According to preliminary information,the incident occurred around 12:45 pm when the couple was travelling to attend a wedding in Mariyannapalya.

The two-wheeler was coming from Hebbal Junction and reportedly took a left turn towards the ring road stretch to access the Outer Ring Road leading towards the Peenya Industrial Area.

At the same time,a cylinder truck was moving from Peenya towards the city,and a canter vehicle was also travelling on the same stretch.

In the ensuing sequence of events,the canter allegedly hit the bike and ran over the riders.Both victims sustained severe injuries and were declared dead on the spot. The bodies were shifted for post-mortem examination.

Police said the accused canter driver has been taken into custody and is being questioned.

A case has been registered,and further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of the accident. Notice will be served to the accused. Further investigation ongoing.
