Chief Minister D.K.Shivakumar on Friday spoke to senior IPS officer Sunil Achayya and conveyed his condolences following the death of his wife,Sandhya Achayya,in a wild elephant attack in Kodagu district.
During the telephone conversation,the Chief Minister expressed shock and grief over the incident and extended his sympathies to the bereaved family.
He told Sunil Achayya that the government stood with the family in their hour of grief and prayed that they find the strength to bear the loss.
Shivakumar described the incident as deeply tragic and said he was saddened to learn of Sandhya Achayya’s death.
He also assured that necessary measures would be taken to address the recurring menace of wild elephants in the region and that instructions had been issued to the concerned officials.
Sandhya Achayya was killed earlier in the day when a wild elephant allegedly attacked her while she was inspecting work at a coffee plantation near Titimati in Kodagu district.
The incident has once again brought the issue of human-wildlife conflict in Kodagu into focus,with local residents demanding stronger measures to prevent elephant incursions into human habitations and agricultural areas.
