Bridging Borders for Global Progress:Zanzibar President Honors Graduates at IIT Madras 63rd Convocation

CHENNAI:In a landmark event celebrating global academic integration and the borderless nature of human talent,the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT-M) hosted its 63rd Convocation ceremony yesterday at its campus premises.

The premier institution welcomed the President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council,Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi,as the chief guest for the occasion.

The ceremony,which began with a unique cultural convergence featuring the national anthems of both Zanzibar and India alongside traditional regional hymns like the Tamil Thai Vaazhthu and Vande Mataram, marked a historic chapter in the institute’s expanding international footprint.

A Historic Academic Milestone:

During the convocation,a staggering 3,106 students were awarded degrees across a multitude of academic disciplines.The graduate cohort included:

* 812 B.Tech.degrees.

* 617 M.Tech. degrees.

* 301 M.S. degrees.

* 143 M.Sc. degrees.

* 53Executive M.B.A. degrees.

* 32Dual Degrees.

“Talent Knows No Boundaries”:

Delivering a powerful convocation address, Dr.Mwinyi emphasized that investing in the minds of the youth is the ultimate blueprint for a nation’s future.

He noted that emerging domains like Artificial Intelligence,Robotics,Biotechnology,and Quantum Technology are rapidly transforming global lifestyles and education systems.

“Today’s youth hold the future of this world in their hands,”Dr.Mwinyi stated.

However,he cautioned that technology alone cannot guarantee progressive advancement unless it serves a human purpose.

“Every excellent invention offers an opportunity for human well-being.Using it correctly lies in our hands.”

Highlighting the establishment of IIT-M’s historic international campus in Zanzibar,the President remarked that the partnership represents a philosophy where excellence directly serves society.

“This proves that IIT-M has crossed boundaries.It reflects that talent should not be confined within specific boundaries,”he added.

A Call to Create a Lasting Legacy:

The convocation also featured addresses from key institutional leaders.Dr.Pawan Goenka,Chairman of the Board of Governors of IIT-M,challenged the graduating class to find their unique arena of impact,whether in laboratories, startups,corporate boardrooms, or classrooms.

“One day,you will look back and ask yourself what did I leave behind?”Dr.Goenka remarked.

IIT-Madras Director V.Kamakoti concluded the event by presenting the institution’s extensive achievements over the past year,cementing IIT-M’s position as a driving force in global education and societal development.
