In a major relief to vehicle owners, the Karnataka government has announced a 50 per cent concession on pending traffic e-challan fines and certain transport department penalty cases.

The waiver will be available from June 21 to July 10, 2026, allowing motorists to settle long-pending violations by paying only half the prescribed fine amount.

The decision was taken following a proposal from the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority ahead of the National Lok Adalat scheduled for July 11,2026.

According to the government order issued by the Transport Department on June 4,the concession applies to all pending traffic e-challan cases registered by the police department up to May 2026.

The benefit has also been extended to cases recorded by the Transport Department between 1991 and 2022 that remain unpaid.

Vehicle owners can avail themselves of the scheme during the 20-day window and have their cases closed by paying 50 per cent of the outstanding penalty amount.

Officials said similar schemes implemented in the past had received an encouraging response.

During the last concession period in November-December 2025,over 77.4 lakh traffic violation cases were settled, resulting in the collection of nearly Rs. 201 crore in fines.

In addition,902 transport department cases were resolved, generating about Rs 29.66 lakh in revenue.

The Karnataka State Legal Services Authority informed the government that despite previous settlement drives, a large number of cases remain pending, with an estimated Rs 2,827 crore still recoverable.

The latest concession is expected to encourage motorists to clear their dues and reduce the backlog of pending cases.

The order was issued with the concurrence of the Finance Department and will come into effect from June 21,2026.
