Bengaluru Cyber Crime Police arrested three from Gujarat for defrauding Meesho of Rs 5.5 crore in span of seven months

T he Bengaluru City Cyber Crime Police have arrested a gang of three from Gujarat who was posing as supplier for the Meesho online marketing company cheating with Rs.5.5 crore in a span of seven months .

Based on the complaint filed by nodal officer,the cyber crime police inspector Hazaresh Khilledar and his team tracked down the accused identified as,Uttam Kumar,31, from Surat and his associates Pratap Bhai,21, and Moulik, 20.

Bengaluru City Police Commissioner B Dayananda appreciating the team said that the accused joined Meesho as supplier registered their company as Om Sai Fashion and roped in third party agents to create fake buyers .

The accused would book products from Meesho online platform with fake address and get the product as undelivered .

The accused would then raise a complaint with the company stating that they had received fake product and apply for refund from the company .

Using this MO and misusing the loophole in the company policy,the accused had made over 2500 fake purchase orders and claimed the refund from the company.

Between January to July this year,the accused had claimed the refund worth Rs.5.5 crore and cheated the company.

The company which initiated a probe and found that all the refund is going to only two bank accounts .

Suspecting something fishy,a complaint was filed following which the police track down the accused and arrested them.

Probe revealed that the gang was involved in similar offence in 2023 and a case has been registered in Whitefield police station limits he added.
