City Armed Reserve (CAR) police constable allegedly died by suicide by shooting himself with his service weapon inside a police van while on duty at the busy Jagat Circle junction in Kalaburagi on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Shivakumar,a constable attached to the City Armed Reserve (CAR).
According to police,he was deployed for security duty at Jagat Circle when he allegedly took the extreme step inside the police vehicle.
Confirming the incident,Kalaburagi City Police Commissioner,Sharanappa S.D.said preliminary investigation suggests that the constable died by suicide due to personal reasons.
Senior police officers,including the Commissioner, rushed to the spot soon after the incident.
A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) was also called to collect evidence and examine the scene.
“We are currently conducting a detailed examination of the spot along with the FSL team.
Further legal action will be initiated based on the complaint lodged by the deceased’s family members, and a comprehensive investigation will be carried out,” the Commissioner said.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the police department, with the death of a serving police constable in a public place causing widespread grief among colleagues.
