Karnataka’s Home,Information Technology, Biotechnology and e-Governance Minister,Priyank Kharge on Saturday said the state government will strengthen the Fire and Emergency Services and Disaster Response system to meet the growing demands of rapid industrialisation,urbanisation and technological development.
During a visit to the headquarters of the Karnataka State Fire and Emergency Services (KSFES) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF),the minister reviewed the department’s infrastructure,manpower,training, modernisation initiatives and future expansion plans.
Kharge directed officials to prepare a comprehensive long-term roadmap for the department,focusing on modern technology,infrastructure,human resources, training and emergency response capabilities in line with the state’s future requirements.
He assured that vacant posts in the department would be filled in a phased manner and that the government would take necessary steps to establish new fire stations wherever required.
He also said the government would positively consider proposals relating to promotions,service benefits and welfare measures for Fire and Emergency Services personnel.
Officials informed the minister that the department currently operates 219 fire stations,six fire control units, a Fire Training Academy,modern firefighting vehicles and rescue equipment,the Agni-2 digital service platform, and five SDRF companies across Karnataka.
They also briefed him on plans to construct new fire stations, procure additional vehicles and modernise the department.
The minister also instructed officials to prepare a comprehensive plan for the more effective utilisation of Home Guards in public safety and emergency response.
He directed them to submit proposals to the government for enhancing the service benefits and honorarium of Home Guards personnel.
In view of the increasing number of accidents caused by LPG gas leaks,Kharge suggested introducing specialised technical training for firefighters.
He asked officials to explore funding for such training through the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives of LPG supply companies or other funding mechanisms.
Emphasising the critical role of Fire and Emergency Services in protecting lives and property,the minister said the state government remains committed to strengthening the department through modern technology,adequate manpower,continuous training and improved infrastructure.
He assured that all proposals related to the department’s development would be given priority.
Director General of Police,Prashant Kumar Thakur, Additional Director General of Police,M. Nanjundaswamy,and other senior officials attended the review meeting.
