A 38-year-old lorry cleaner was killed after being hit by a speeding car on National Highway 44 near Lalagondanahalli Gate in Devanahalli on Saturday night.
The deceased has been identified as Badrilal Dariya,a native of Madhya Pradesh,who was working as a cleaner in a goods vehicle.
Senior officer told reporters that he was accompanying the driver of a Rajasthan-registered canter truck that had arrived in Bengaluru to unload a consignment of garlic at Yeshwanthpur.
After completing the delivery,the truck was parked by the roadside near Devanahalli while the driver and cleaner rested before proceeding to Kolar to load mangoes the next day.
At around 8:45 PM,Badrilal reportedly crossed the highway to have tea.While returning,he was standing on the roadside when a car travelling from Bengaluru towards Chikkaballapur,allegedly struck him at high speed.
Badrilal sustained severe head and body injuries in the impact.The truck driver and the car driver immediately shifted him to Akash Hospital in Devanahalli by ambulance.However,doctors declared him dead on arrival.
The car was allegedly driven by Mithilesh M,a resident of Peresandra in Chikkaballapur district.
Based on a complaint filed by the truck driver, Devanahalli Police have registered a case under Sections 281 and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for rash and negligent driving causing death. Further investigation is underway.
