Student escapes attempted rape bid in Whitefield;Accused arrested within hours

A student narrowly escaped an alleged rape attempt in Bengaluru’s Whitefield area after her screams alerted local residents,prompting the accused to flee the spot.

The Whitefield police have arrested the suspect identified as Saifal mondal,27,within hours of registering the case.

The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning when the student stepped out of her PG accommodation and was walking towards a nearby tea stall.

Senior officer told reporters that the accused,who allegedly spotted the woman alone on the road, intercepted her and attempted to sexually assault her.

The victim raised an alarm,and her cries for help drew the attention of nearby residents,who rushed to the spot. Seeing people approach,the accused escaped from the scene.

Following the incident,the woman lodged a complaint with the Whitefield police.

Based on her complaint,a case was registered and an investigation was launched immediately.

Police later traced and arrested the accused,identified as Saifal,who reportedly works as a scrap collector in the area.Investigators said he allegedly targeted the woman after noticing she was alone.

The Whitefield police arrested the accused within a few hours of the complaint being filed and are continuing further investigation into the case.
