The Global Christian Council has strongly condemned the reported attacks targeting Christian minorities and Christian missionaries in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.
Expressing serious concern over these incidents, Binish Thomas, Coordinator for the Asian Region of the Global Christian Council, stated that attacks, intimidation and harassment directed at members of the Christian community cannot be tolerated.
He emphasized that every citizen has the constitutional right to practise, profess and propagate their religion, subject to the provisions of the Indian Constitution.
Freedom of religion is a fundamental right, and no individual or group should be subjected to violence or intimidation for peacefully practising their faith.
“Any attack on the Christian community or Christian missionaries will not be tolerated.
We will pursue these matters through appropriate legal channels and approach the respective High Courts and other competent authorities wherever necessary to seek justice for the victims,” Binish Thomas stated.
The Global Christian Council said it would closely examine the reported incidents in both states and take appropriate legal steps to protect the constitutional and fundamental rights of the Christian community.
The Council reiterated that religious freedom, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence are essential principles of India’s democratic and constitutional framework.
