Chief Minister D K Shivakumar today dedicated his new office to the people of the state saying that the CM’s chair belonged to the people.

Addressing a press conference after holding the first Cabinet meeting soon after taking oath, the CM said, “This CM’s chair does not belong to D K Shivakumar—it is people’s chair.I will dedicate the power given by the people to the service of the people.”

“Setting aside my personal concerns, I have accepted this office with a resolve to serve the people of the state. I believe in the saying. He who forgets the steps behind him cannot take the step ahead.’I keep saying that if we forget our roots, we will not reap the fruit.

Today is a new day.The Congress party and the people of the state have given me the opportunity to do new work and find new opportunities.

In the remaining two years,I am searching for new opportunities — for whatever service I can render to the people of the state and for the welfare of the state,” he stated.

*High Command Put All Confusion to Rest:

“All these days, the media was broadcasting many news reports and statements about the transfer of power and a change in leadership.

They were waking up those who were asleep and putting to sleep those who were awake. Our party’s high command has now put an end to all this.

I had told them to have patience till the auspicious hour came. Today,at 4:15 in the evening, the media and the people of the state have witnessed that auspicious moment, that auspicious hour,”he said.

*Criticisms Die,Works Remain:

“The people of the state have reposed immense faith in me.In the past,I have received both bouquets and brickbats.I believe criticisms die,but works remain.

I will use my 40 years of political experience in an effort to bring new governance in the state. From 1985 until now, I have seen hardship and I have seen comfort.

I experienced power at a young age.I fell into the trap of many political machinations.A situation arose where I had to go to Tihar Jail.

I never lost heart.I lived on hope. This same faith has again given me the opportunity to serve the people of the state and to leave behind a mark,” he stated.

*Siddaramaiah Has Kept His Word:

“This is an opportunity given with great trust by Congress workers and the people.Under the leadership of Mallikarjun Kharge,Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi made this decision. It has come a little late.Nonetheless, our leader Siddaramaiah has kept his word.

He kept saying that he would abide by the decision of the party high command. When our senior leaders called the two of us and made this decision,Siddaramaiah very happily made way for me.

All the leaders of our party have stood united, offered their support, and entrusted me with this responsibility,” he said.

*I Have Placed My Faith in the Religion of Humanity:

“I understand the condition of farmers in rural areas and the problems of people in urban areas. As much as 42% of people live in cities.People are migrating to cities for jobs.

Even if it means taking up street vending, they are leaving farming and coming to the cities for a better life and to educate their children.

Each and every decision of this government is not Shivakumar’s alone but a collective decision.I do not have faith in caste or in religion.

I may have my own personal faith. But I am one who has placed his faith in the religion of humanity,”he stated.

“I contested in a school election in the 7th grade.I believe in the democratic system. Our Cabinet reflects that this land is a garden of peace for all communities.

Let the media criticize or correct the mistakes of our government. But do not fabricate baseless political news. When you criticized me,I did not question it.The people see what you show through your camera’s eye.Report according to your conscience,”he appealed.
