A 19-year-old student who was part of the Protest against NEET paper leak at freedom park was allegedly assaulted by four unidentified men near BEL Circle in Jalahalli,Northwest Bengaluru,after they questioned him about Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday night .
The victim,a resident of Jalahalli,told police that the incident took place between 10.30 pm and 10.45 pm on July 28 while he was walking home after dinner and speaking on his mobile phone along the BEL Circle service road towards MES Road.
According to the complaint,two motorcycles carrying four unidentified men intercepted him.
The assailants allegedly confirmed his identity by asking if he was“Aman Deep Singh”before verbally abusing him and asking,“Do you want Modi’s resignation?”.
They allegedly attacked him with a wooden stick, causing injuries to his leg,and fled the scene.
Based on the complaint,the Jalahalli Police registered an FIR on July 29 under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) relating to unlawful assembly, wrongful restraint, voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation.
The accused have not yet been identified, and further investigation is underway.
All India Students Association (AISA) issued a statement alleging that the victim is one of its members and that the attackers were suspected to be associated with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).
AISA claimed the assailants threatened the student, asking,“You dare to demand the resignation of Modi?”, and that the victim sustained a leg injury requiring plaster treatment.
AISA said the student had been actively participating in protests at Freedom Park in Bengaluru in solidarity with the nationwide student movement demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over issues related to education.
The student organisation alleged that the assault was linked to the victim’s participation in anti-government protests.
However,the FIR does not identify any organisation or political affiliation of the attackers,and police have not officially attributed any motive for the assault.
In its statement,AISA condemned the attack and called for the immediate arrest of those responsible.The organisation also urged the Bengaluru Police to conduct a swift investigation and sought intervention from the Karnataka Home Department.
The Police are examining the circumstances surrounding the incident and are working to identify the four accused.No arrests had been reported at the time of filing this report.
