Panic gripped at cricket ground near Varthur after a security guard discovered a human head early on Wednesday morning and alerted the police control room.
Varthur Police rushed to the spot and began an inquiry. During the investigation, officers from the Byappanahalli Railway Police,who had already registered an unnatural death (UDR) case after recovering a headless body on a railway track about 300 metres away, arrived at the ground in search of the missing head.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the victim was struck by a train on Tuesday night,and the impact severed his head.
We suspect a pack of stray dogs later carried the severed head from the railway track to the nearby cricket ground.
The deceased has been identified as Vishwanath (25),a native of Chittoor who was working in a private firm in Bengaluru.
The Byappanahalli Railway Police have informed the victim’s family and are continuing their investigation to establish the exact circumstances leading to the incident.
Initial findings indicate it was an accidental death, though further inquiry is underway.
