Tension prevailed near the KPCC office in Bengaluru on Wednesday after BJP MLA B.P.Harish was allegedly pelted with eggs while walking from Cantonment towards the KPCC office to join fellow BJP leaders protesting outside the Congress headquarters.
According to police,a group of protesters shouted slogans and hurled eggs at the MLA,creating a tense atmosphere in the area.
Police personnel deployed at the spot struggled to control the crowd and prevent the situation from escalating.
Following the incident,the Bengaluru City Police registered a criminal case at Shivajinagar Police Station.
Five accused persons have been identified and arrested, and legal action has been initiated against them. Further investigation is underway.
In a statement,Bengaluru City Police said it would not permit any individual or organisation to take the law into their own hands or violate the directions of the Hon’ble High Court.
The police warned that any person or group resorting to unlawful protests,violence or disruption of public order anywhere in Bengaluru,other than at the designated protest venue at Freedom Park,would face strict legal action irrespective of political affiliation.
The police reiterated their commitment to maintaining public order and ensuring that the rule of law is upheld across the city.
