The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) General Secretary S.Manohar has lodged a complaint with the High Grounds Police Station in Bengaluru seeking criminal action against Vijayapura City MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal over his alleged public remarks made during a farmers’ protest at Bhairamangala in Bidadi,Ramanagara district.
In the complaint,Manohar alleged that Yatnal,while addressing protesting farmers, reportedly said that if he became the Chief Minister,he would provide AK-47 rifles and give them”full permission”to shoot.
The complainant stated that videos of the speech have been widely circulated on social media and in the media.
The complaint contends that the alleged statement is capable of inciting violence,disturbing public order,and creating fear and unrest in society.It further argues that such remarks by an elected public representative are highly irresponsible.
Manohar has urged the police to verify the available video and other evidence,register an FIR under the applicable provisions of law,conduct a comprehensive investigation, and take appropriate legal action, including arrest if warranted under law.
The complaint also stressed that everyone is equal before the law and sought prompt action to uphold law and order.A Facebook video link of the alleged speech has been enclosed with the complaint.
