The Jnanabharathi police have registered an FIR against the administrative secretary, principal and two to three teachers of St.Philomina School in Mariyappanapalya after a 13-year-old Class 7 student allegedly attempted to end life following alleged physical assault and harassment at the school.
Based on the the complaint by father of the student,the Jnanabharathi police on Wednesday registered an FIR under Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act and Sections 115(2),118(1) and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

According to the complaint,Mahesh kumar,a businessman and resident of Chikkabasti,Ramasandra Main Road alleged that his son,(Samarth M),a Class 7 student studying under the Right to Education (RTE) quota,was beaten by the school’s administrative secretary Rangaswamy,the principal and two to three teachers on July 14 after they allegedly became angry with him for an unspecified reason.
The father alleged that the assault left the child with injuries across his body.
Distressed by the incident and fearing further harassment,the boy allegedly attempted suicide by hanging at his house later the same evening.
The complaint further states that the child had repeatedly expressed reluctance to attend school over the past few days,alleging that he was being harassed by teachers,the principal,the school secretary and even other students’parents.
The father said he had been consoling his son and had promised to shift him to another school after the current academic year.
Seeking legal action,the complainant cited provisions prohibiting corporal punishment and mental harassment of children under the Right to Education Act,the Juvenile Justice Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The Police have registered the case and initiated an investigation.
