Home Minister Priyank Kharge review the functioning of State Police Computer Wing &stresses the need to leverage IT to make policing more transparent

Home Minister Priyank Kharge on Saturday reviewed the functioning of the State Police Computer Wing at the M.S.Building in Bengaluru,stressing the need to leverage information technology to make policing more transparent,efficient and citizen-friendly amid the growing threat of cybercrime.

During the review meeting,Director General of Police (DGP) Dr.M.A.Saleem and senior officers briefed the minister on the department’s technological infrastructure, digital platforms and ongoing modernisation initiatives.

The Police Computer Wing,which serves as the technological backbone of the Karnataka Police, manages the department’s digital networks,information management systems,software platforms and IT-enabled services.

Officials also outlined the work of the Cyber Crime Wing in investigating online fraud, cryptocurrency-related offences,hacking and other cybercrimes,while the Cyber Forensic Unit demonstrated its role in collecting and analysing digital evidence and providing technical support to police stations across the state.

Kharge directed officials to strengthen technological capabilities,adopt advanced digital solutions and improve the delivery of public services in view of the increasing incidence of cyber offences.

He also called for enhancing transparency and accountability in policing through better digital governance.

The review covered key digital infrastructure,including the State Police Data Centre,the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS),the Cyber Command Centre,the Cyber Emergency Network (CEN), the KSP App and the Smart e-Beat platform,all of which are aimed at improving police responsiveness and operational efficiency.

Officials also discussed the further development of Police IT v2,the Karnataka Police’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) platform that integrates crime records management,traffic administration and departmental operations.

Deliberations focused on modernising the department’s digital ecosystem,strengthening cybersecurity,improving interoperability among various digital platforms and creating a unified digital framework for police operations.

The meeting also reviewed initiatives proposed under the Home Department’s 100-day action plan,with emphasis on building a smarter,technology-driven and intelligence-led policing system in Karnataka.

The meeting was attended by Police Computer Wing Inspector General of Police (IGP)and Home Minister’s Special Officer,Labhu Ram,along with senior officials from the Police Computer Wing,State Crime Records Bureau,Cyber Crime Wing and Cyber Forensic Unit.
