Three arrested for creating and circulating AI-Generated obscene content of actor Rukmini Vasanth.A BSc Nursing student who allegedly created deepfake videos to boost online views and earn money, a software engineer drawing an annual salary package of Rs.20 lakh,and an employee of a chartered accountancy firm are among the three persons arrested in connection with the circulation of AI-generated obscene content featuring actor Rukmini Vasanth.
The arrests were made by the Karnataka Cyber Command following an investigation into the viral circulation of morphed and sexually explicit images and videos of the Kantara actor created using artificial intelligence tools.
Investigators were reportedly surprised by the backgrounds of the accused during interrogation.
The prime accused, Ravikumar (24) from Bagalkot district,is a BSc Nursing student who operated a YouTube channel.Police said he had been creating and uploading deepfake videos and allegedly used such content to attract more viewers,increase engagement and generate revenue from online platforms.
Another accused,Ranjith Kumar(25),a software engineer from Bengaluru earning an annual salary of around Rs.20 lakh,allegedly admitted during questioning that he created deepfake videos of actresses”for fun.”
The third accused,Chandrakanth (33),who worked in a chartered accountancy firm in Bengaluru,is also alleged to have confessed to creating AI-generated deepfake content of actresses for amusement.
According to investigators,the accused used artificial intelligence tools to create and circulate obscene photographs and videos of actor Rukmini Vasanth across online platforms.Three mobile phones used in the crime have been seized and sent for forensic examination.
Police said the preliminary investigation has confirmed the use of AI technology to generate and distribute the manipulated content.
Investigators are now examining whether the accused targeted other women and celebrities and whether additional persons were involved in the circulation network.
The case was registered at the Cyber Crime Police Station following a complaint by the actor.
The Karnataka Cyber Command has warned that the creation and dissemination of non-consensual AI-generated explicit content is a serious criminal offence and that stringent action will be taken against offenders.Further investigation is underway.
