In a tragic incident, two children drowned after accidentally falling into a farm pond at Togarihatti village in Doddaballapur taluk on Sunday.
The deceased have been identified as Daksha (11) and Dhanush (4).
According to police, the children had gone out to play while their parents were away from home when they accidentally fell into the agricultural pond and drowned.
The incident has left the family devastated, with relatives and villagers mourning the loss of the young children.
Police said the farm pond belongs to a local farmer, Gurumurthy.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the pond did not have a protective fence or adequate safety measures around it.
Based on this a case has been registered against the owner at the Doddaballapur Rural Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
The tragedy comes amid a growing number of incidents involving children drowning in farm ponds, lakes, water tanks, and sumps across Karnataka.
Only recently,a two-year-old child drowned after falling into a water sump in Mandya district’s Pandavapura taluk. In another incident reported on June 8 in Bagalkote district,an 18-month-old girl lost her life after falling into a water storage tank.
The latest deaths have once again raised concerns over the lack of safety precautions around water bodies in rural areas and the urgent need for preventive measures to avoid such tragedies.
