Undertrial in 2008 Madiwala Blast Case Dies After Suffering Cardiac Arrest

Abdul Khader (60),an undertrial accused in the 2008 Madiwala serial bomb blast case,died on Friday after suffering a cardiac arrest while being shifted from Bengaluru Central Prison,Parappana Agrahara,to a hospital for medical treatment.

According to prison authorities,Khader’s health condition suddenly worsened on Friday.He was immediately being taken to Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research for treatment when he reportedly suffered a massive heart attack en route and succumbed before reaching the hospital.

Following his death,the body was shifted to Victoria Hospital for post-mortem examination.Jail officials have informed his family members and initiated the mandatory legal procedures.

A native of Virajpet in Kodagu district,Khader had been lodged in Parappana Agrahara Central Prison since 2010 after being arrested by the National Investigation Agency in connection with the 2008 Madiwala serial bomb blast case. He remained an undertrial prisoner as the case proceedings continued before the court.

Sources said Khader had been battling serious health complications for some time.The trial in the blast case was in its final stages,and a verdict was expected within the next few days.

His death before the pronouncement of judgment effectively brings the criminal proceedings against him to a close.

Authorities are expected to complete the post-mortem, inquest and other statutory formalities before handing over the body to his relatives.
