Jnanabharathi police have arrested two alleged chain snatchers involved in targeting women walking alone and recovered stolen gold ornaments weighing 45.82 grams,valued at around Rs.5 lakh.
Senior officer told reporters that a woman from Balaji Layout in Malathahalli was walking on 5th Cross when two men approached her on a motorcycle.
The pillion rider allegedly snatched her gold mangalsutra chain and the duo fled the scene.
Based on the victim’s complaint,Jnanabharathi police registered a case and launched an investigation.
Acting on specific information,officers apprehended one suspect from Nanjarasappa Layout in Chandra Layout.
During interrogation,the accused reportedly revealed details that led police to arrest his accomplice at the Ballari bus stand.
Further investigation revealed that the stolen jewellery had been pledged at a jewellery shop in Gadag and that the motorcycle used in the crime had been handed over to a relative of one of the accused.
Police recovered a 32.040-gram gold chain pledged at the jewellery shop, two gold pendants weighing 13.78 grams found in the possession of the accused,and the two-wheeler allegedly used in the offence.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest Division) Anita B.Hadannavar said the total recovery included gold ornaments weighing 45.82 grams.
The arrests were made within two days of the offence by a team led by Jnanabharathi Police Inspector Shashikumar C.R.and his staff.
Police are continuing further investigation into the case.
