When I recently met PM Narendra Modi in Delhi, he had warned about a severe drought situation this year.
In Karnataka, apart from the Almatti and Harangi reservoirs, most other dams are nearly empty. If this situation continues, there could be problems with drinking water for people and cattle.
I have written a letter to the PM about the state’s situation. I have requested necessary help. I need your cooperation to get that help.
There is a serious drought situation in the state. I have appealed to farmers to sow crops based on the water levels in the dams. I have also instructed officials to create awareness among farmers about this.
On the occasion of installing the Tungabhadra crest gate, along with Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu and Telangana CM Revanth Reddy I met Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil. The Union minister attended this event in response to our request.
In the presence of the Union minister, the three CMs agreed to build the Navile Balancing Reservoir on the Tungabhadra to save 30 TMC of water.
We have also agreed on the project to link the Godavari, Krishna, Pennar, and Cauvery rivers. This is a historic decision.

On the Mekedatu project, the Supreme Court has given a verdict favorable to both states. It has clearly stated that Karnataka does not need permission from other states to build a balancing reservoir on Karnataka’s own land, and other states have no right to object.
Today in the Rajya Sabha, the Jal Shakti Minister repeated this same point while answering a question from Tamil Nadu’s Anbumani Ramadoss. I thank him on behalf of Karnataka for this.
The Krishna Tribunal’s water-sharing decision needed to be notified in the gazette. This matter was pending in the Supreme Court. Today, the Supreme Court decided to set up a special bench to resolve this.
To remove hurdles in the Mahadayi project, we will consult with lawyers and take further steps.
To manage the state’s pending projects, a new system will be set up at Karnataka Bhavan. A new team, including a separate Resident Commissioner, will be formed to follow up on our projects.
This team will work to provide you with supporting information.
