Four migrant workers from West Bengal were allegedly robbed at knifepoint by a group of unidentified men near Bettadasanapura in the Electronics City police station limits on Sunday evening.
According to the complaint filed by Sabir Shaik(20),he and his friends Yunus (25),Irfan Shaik(19)and Owaidur Islam Laskar(18) have been living in Bengaluru for the past eight months and work under a contractor.
On June 28 at around 6.30 pm,the four friends were sitting and chatting near Bettadasanapura after returning from work.
While Sabir was speaking on his mobile phone,three unidentified men approached him,claiming that his friends had called them.
When Sabir denied knowing them, the men allegedly asked him to show photographs of his friends on his phone.
After seeing the photographs,the suspects allegedly snatched Sabir’s mobile phone and walked towards the back of a nearby temple.When Sabir followed them demanding the return of his phone,his friends arrived at the spot.
The accused allegedly threatened the group with a knife, a wooden club and an iron rod,assaulted two of the victims,and demanded money.
They allegedly took away Rs.10,000 in cash,two Redmi mobile phones,a Vivo smartphone,a Samsung mobile phone and the victims’ SIM cards.
The complainant further alleged that the accused forced him to unlock his PhonePe account and transferred Rs.488 from his account to another account before fleeing.
They also allegedly threatened the victims with further violence if they informed the police.
The victims later informed their employer and approached the police.The Electronics City Police have registered a case under Sections 309(6) (robbery) and 311(robbery or dacoity with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and have launched a search to identify and apprehend the accused.
