Following the death of a 70-year-old contract worker died after allegedly suffering an electric shock while working at a Bengaluru Metro construction site near near trinity metro station,M G Road on Friday,The Halasuru Police have registered a case against a contractor,site supervisors and officials of the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) on charges of causing death by negligence.
The deceased has been identified as Gurappa P.(70),a resident of Mutturayaswamy Doddi near Bannerghatta.
Based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s son, Halasuru police have registered an FIR under Section 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) (causing death by negligence) against Suraj (A1) of M.R. Electricals, Rajesh(A2), Manasa (A3), and BMRCL officials (A4).
According to the complaint,Gurappa had been working as daily wage labourers.
On June 26,officials from M.R.Electricals allegedly contacted them over the phone and asked them to report for work at a Metro construction site at Trinity juction MG road .
At around 3.30 pm,while removing concrete chipping between two Metro pillars,Gurappa allegedly came into contact with a live electric line and suffered a fatal electric shock.
The complainant alleged that the contractor and supervising officials had failed to provide essential safety equipment such as helmets,safety gloves and other protective gear,and had not taken adequate precautionary measures despite the hazardous nature of the work.
The family has accused the contractor,supervisors and BMRCL officials of negligence,claiming their failure to ensure workplace safety led to Gurappa’s death.
The Police have registered the case and initiated an investigation to determine whether safety protocols were violated at the construction site and to fix responsibility for the fatal accident.
