A hotel owner in Bengaluru’s Kengeri has alleged that a group of miscreants threatened to set his establishment on fire after they were refused food following closing hours.
The incident has also triggered allegations of police apathy after the complainant claimed that the station inspector reprimanded him for calling at midnight instead of promptly addressing his complaint.
According to hotel owner Madhu Kiran, the incident occurred at around 11.30 pm on Friday at Rajaratna Hotel in Kengeri.
A group of men allegedly arrived in a Fortuner SUV and demanded food despite the hotel having already closed for the day.
When the staff refused to serve them, the group allegedly threatened to burn down the hotel and warned that they would not allow the establishment to operate from the following day.
Madhu Kiran immediately dialled the police emergency helpline (112),following which Hoysala patrol personnel reached the spot.
However,he alleged that the miscreants continued
creating a ruckus even in the presence of the police.
Both parties were subsequently taken to the Kengeri Police Station.
The hotel owner further alleged that when he called Kengeri Police Inspector,Jagadish to seek intervention, the officer allegedly rebuked him for calling at midnight, asking whether he had “common sense”to make such a call at that hour.
An audio recording of the purported conversation is said to be available.
Madhu Kiran has also alleged that the accused were later let off without any legal action despite the threats issued against him.
The allegations have raised questions over the police response to the complaint.
However, the Kengeri Police are yet to issue an official statement responding to the allegations made by the hotel owner.
