After two days of intensive grilling over irregularities in the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) veterinary examination,IAS officer Gyanendra Kumar Gangwar was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Friday following more than nine hours of questioning.
Gangwar was questioned by Superintendent of Police Raghavendra K Hegde and his team in connection with alleged manipulation of OMR answer sheets in the examination.
A senior CID officer said Gangwar was grilled in detail based on the primary evidence collected during the investigation.
The officer said the decision to arrest him was taken after he allegedly failed to cooperate with the investigation.
CID officials had issued Gangwar a notice directing him to appear before the investigating officer after the agency took over the cases registered at the Vidhana Soudha police station.
Gangwar was serving as Controller of Examinations at the KPSC when the alleged irregularities took place.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had conducted a search at Gangwar’s residence in Jayamahal Extension on August 23.
Investigators have alleged that he received around Rs.1.1 crore from two candidates who appeared for the veterinary examination.
The candidates’OMR answer sheets were allegedly tampered with to facilitate their selection.
The arrest comes as the investigation into alleged irregularities in the KPSC recruitment process widens, with investigators examining the role of officials and candidates involved in the suspected manipulation.
