Four transgenders arrested by Tumakuru district police for allegedly robing motorist on NH-48

The Tumakuru district police have arrested four transgender persons for allegedly robbing a lone motorist on National Highway-48 near Sira by threatening him and extorting cash and valuables.

Senior officer told reporters that the incident took place in the early hours of June 14 when the victim had stopped his car at a roadside rest area on the Tumakuru-Hiriyur stretch of NH-48 to take a break.

Around 4 am,five transgender persons allegedly approached the motorist and demanded money.When he refused,they allegedly threatened to accuse him of attempting to assault them and warned that they would create a public scene and gather a crowd.

Fearing consequences,the victim allegedly handed over a Titan wristwatch, two silver rings and Rs.5,000 in cash.

The accused also allegedly forced him to transfer Rs.4,000 through PhonePe before fleeing the spot.

Based on the complaint,the Sira Town Police registered a case under Section 308(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched an investigation.

A special team has been formed which track down the accused identified as Roopa alias Shankara Nayak (26) of Ballari district,Ragini Yogeesh G.R.(25)of Tarikere, Kanasu alias Kiran Kumar H.R.(21)of Mandya district and Keerthi alias Dhanush (28) of Tumakuru.

The Police recovered Rs.4,000 in cash,a Titan wristwatch and two silver rings allegedly robbed from the complainant.

The accused were produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody.Police said efforts are underway to trace the fifth accused who remains absconding.
