A 30-year-old Traffic police constable was allegedly assaulted and publicly humiliated by three youths after he attempted to book them for triple riding at Nammura Thindi Junction in Nagarabhavi 2nd Stage on Monday evening.
The incident occurred around 5.30 pm during a vehicle-checking drive near B.Palya.
Police Constable Lakshmana Nayaka,attached to Jnanabharathi station,had been deployed for enforcement checks in the area when he noticed three youth travelling on a motorcycle in ras and negligent manner in violation of traffic rules.
According to the complaint,the Mr.Nayak stopped the vehicle and began recording the triple-riding violation.
However,one of the riders,identified as Mubarak and Shahid,became aggressive and verbally abused the policeman in full public view.
The accused assaulted Mr.Nayak to obstruct him from performing his duty,roughed him up by caught hold of his shirt collar,pulled him and tore the buttons off his uniform.
The incident reportedly took place at a busy junction, drawing the attention of passers-by and motorists.
Police sources said the accused’s actions amounted to assaulting and humiliating a public servant while he was discharging official duties.
Based on the complaint,the Annapoorneshwari Nagar police have registered a case against the accused under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for obstructing a public servant,assaulting a government employee on duty and criminal intimidation.
The police have traced two among the three accused for further action.
