Thieves broke into a paying guest (PG) accommodation in south Bengaluru and stole eight mobile phones belonging to residents while they were charging overnight.
The incident was reported from a PG hostel in Hosapalya under the jurisdiction of the Bandepalya Police Station.
According to police, the theft took place at Sai Aradhya Luxury PG for Gents located on the Kudlu Main Road in Hosapalya. The complaint was filed by Darshan,a cab driver residing in the PG.
Darshan told police that after returning from work around 11 pm on May 28,he had kept his two mobile phones for charging before going to sleep.
Other residents in his room and adjoining rooms had also left their phones on charge overnight.
When Darshan woke up around 6 am on May 29,he found that his phones were missing.
A check of the other rooms revealed that a total of eight mobile phones had been stolen from the hostel.
Police said the PG did not have a security guard on duty at the time of the incident.Examination of CCTV footage reportedly showed two unidentified men entering the building during the night, stealing the phones and escaping without alerting the residents.
Investigators believe the theft was made easier because several residents had left their room doors unlocked while sleeping.
A case has been registered at the Bandepalya Police Station, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the suspects using CCTV footage.
