A 19-year-old nursing student from Kerala was found dead in his hostel room at a private nursing college in Bengaluru on Wednesday, raising serious concerns over the circumstances leading to his death.
The deceased has been identified as AP Adithyan,a second-year BSc Nursing student at BTL School of Nursing in Bommasandra.
According to sources,Adithyan was found hanging in his hostel room on Wednesday afternoon.
College authorities reportedly informed his family around 12.30 pm that he had been hospitalised in a serious condition and asked them to reach Bengaluru immediately.
However, when Adithyan’s father,Pradeep S,arrived in the city on Thursday morning,he was informed that his son had died and that it was suspected to be a case of suicide.
Casting doubt over the circumstances,Pradeep has alleged foul play and claimed that his son was subjected to mental harassment by college staff.
In a complaint submitted to the Hebbagodi police,he stated that Adithyan had been falsely implicated in a drug-related case.
He said some of Adithyan’s hostel roommates were earlier caught using drugs and punished by the college authorities, but his son, despite being innocent, was also warned.
Pradeep further alleged that around 20 days ago,a faculty member identified as Sandeep Pandey accused Adithyan of involvement in the incident and allegedly humiliated him in front of his classmates, causing severe mental distress.
“I firmly believe that my son would not have taken such a step.He was mentally strong.I suspect foul play,” Pradeep said in his complaint, seeking a thorough and impartial investigation.
The family has demanded justice and urged the police to probe the role of the college administration and staff in the incident.
Police said a case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
