The Central Crime Branch officials arrested a 37-year-old software engineer for cheating cyber crime victims offering legal aid and escape with the money on the pretext of service changes.
Following a complaint filed by one of the victim who had lost Rs.1.5 crore in a cyber fraud in Ramamurthynagar, looking for help online,the accused approached him posing as representative of “quickmoto legal service “and made away with Rs.12. 5 lakh in February this year.
The police following the case found that the company is only on paper and does not have any office .
However the CCB track down the accused operating from different location under different name “India Legal Service “in Kasturi Nagar and arrested the accused .
The accused has been identified as Thufail Ahmed CAM, resident of Kadalur in Tamil Nadu,with a BE in Electronic communication and Engineering course.
The accused has set up a tele call centre employed 12 people as tele callers in Kasturi Nagar to track down cyber crime victims and cheat them.
The accused with the help of his brother working in Dubai,set up many fake companies to carry out online cheating racket,the officer,said .
Explaining the Modus Operandi,the accused would track victims of cyber crime looking for help.The accused would approach them through VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) top avoid being detected .
Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused had cheated as many as 29 people by taking lakhs of rupees towards the fee promising to get back the cheated money .
He has been booked under under IT act and taken into police custody to ascertain his criminal background.
