Thalaghattapura Police arrest auto driver turned chain-snatcher within 24 hours,recover Rs.2.5 lakh gold chain

Thalaghattapura police have arrested a 32-year-old autorickshaw driver within 24 hours of a chain-snatching incident and recovered a 29-gram gold chain worth around ₹2.5 lakh and an iPhone allegedly stolen in another case.

The accused has been identified as Santosh,a resident of JP Nagar 7th Phase.

According to police, the incident occurred around 7.30 am on August 29 when the complainant was cleaning outside her house.

The accused,who arrived on an autorickshaw,allegedly approached the woman asking for directions to a nearby temple.

When she came closer to the autorickshaw to guide him, he allegedly grabbed her neck,snatched the gold chain and fled.

The woman subsequently approached Thalaghattapura police,who registered a case under Sections 309(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Police said a team began investigating the case immediately and analysed various leads,eventually identifying and apprehending the accused within 24 hours.

During interrogation,police allegedly recovered the 29-gram gold chain with a dollar pendant,valued at around ₹2.5 lakh.

They also recovered an iPhone allegedly stolen in another case registered at Thalaghattapura police station.

The police have linked the recovery to two cases under Sections 309(5) and 303(2) BNS and Crime No. 320/2026 under Section 309(4) BNS.
