A man who allegedly posed as a person with a disability and begged on the streets was detained by local residents in Bengaluru and handed over to the Byatarayanapura Police on suspicion of theft.
The man, identified as Mukesh,a native of Bihar, had reportedly been begging in the city while pretending to be disabled.

According to locals, they had been observing him for about a week and noticed that he was able to stand and walk normally at certain times.Suspecting foul play, they monitored his movements before confronting him.
Residents alleged that Mukesh was involved in stealing mobile phones and other valuables. However, when police searched his bag, they found only Rs.150 in cash and an empty file.No stolen property was recovered.
As no cognizable offence could be established and there were no grounds to register an FIR,the Byatarayanapura Police did not book him in a criminal case.
Instead,he was handed over to a beggars’ rehabilitation centre for counselling and further action.
Police said further verification is being carried out.
