Fans Say“Difference Between 1st and 2nd Is Small, Between 2nd and 32nd Is Huge”.

Streets of Kolkata fell silent last night after Argentina’s defeat in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Final.For a city that breathes football,the result felt bigger than just a match.

There were no celebrations.No fireworks.Even the famous Durian shops saw fans turning away.The loss hit harder because of who was wearing the sky-blue and white.

“When a warrior attains martyrdom,the whole world stands beside him.It doesn’t walk away,”said one football supporter outside a shopping mall in Kolkata where the match was displayed on a giant screen.

Despite the result,tributes poured in for Lionel Messi and Diego Maradona.Fans called them“the two greatest the earth has ever seen.”

From Maradona who made the world believe one man could change history,to Messi who turned football into art Argentina’s legacy,they said,goes far beyond trophies.

“Messi didn’t just win titles.He won millions of hearts. Maradona didn’t just play football.He became God for a nation,”a fan group posted on social media.

Many supporters also responded to criticism from fans of smaller nations.

“Teams that couldn’t even reach the quarterfinals are laughing today.They don’t understand the gap between 1st and 2nd is small.The gap between 2nd and 32nd is massive,”one viral post read.

For Kolkata and for India,the World Cup ended without celebration.But the love for the jersey,for Messi,and for Maradona only grew stronger.
