The Karnataka government is developing a comprehensive and collaborative framework with major digital platforms to curb misinformation,fake news,and hate speech that can adversely impact public administration,public safety,and law and order,IT-BT, e-Governance and Home Minister,Priyank Kharge said.
The announcement follows a high-level consultation held recently with representatives of the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) and leading social media and digital platform companies.

During the meeting,the government stressed the need for close cooperation with digital platforms to build a responsible online ecosystem.
Discussions focused on strengthening mechanisms to swiftly identify and act against misinformation and online content that could threaten social harmony.
As part of the initiative,the government has decided to establish dedicated points of contact between its proposed Information Disorder Tackling Unit and various social media platforms.
A rapid-response communication mechanism will also be created to ensure timely coordination during emergencies.
Kharge said the Information Disorder Tackling Unit will be jointly led by the IT-BT Department and the Home Department.
The unit will facilitate faster coordination with digital platforms,enable prompt action against harmful online content,and improve the government’s response to emerging digital threats.
He reiterated that the Karnataka government remains committed to building a safe,transparent,and accountable digital ecosystem through sustained collaboration with digital platforms and other stakeholders.
