*Drought in 102 taluks; drought report to be submitted to Centre by end of August.
Many MLAs try to meet the Chief Minister every day. Therefore,the Chief Minister will hold a meeting with the MLAs today.
Their issues will be heard and discussions will be held on taking steps to resolve them,Deputy Chief Minister Dr.G.Parameshwara said.
Speaking to the media near his Sadashivanagar residence today,he said the Chief Minister would meet the MLAs in batches until the evening, hear their concerns and respond to them.
Asked whether only Congress MLAs had been invited to the meeting,he said,“As the ruling party,we have to remain united.
Whenever any party is in power,greater importance is naturally given to its own legislators.We are also doing the same.
The people have elected us,and they also have expectations from the ruling party.Therefore,naturally, there will be more opportunities.”
Responding to a question on whether ministers would be given the responsibility of taking government schemes to the people and preparing for the upcoming local body elections,he said,
“We have appointed one minister for each district.They have to perform two responsibilities.They have to carry out party work as well as development work.
They will be given responsibility for both.As district ministers, they have to address party-related issues in the district and also oversee development works.This has been the practice for a long time.”
Asked whether the drought report would be submitted to the Centre by the end of August,he said,We will discuss this issue in today’s meeting as well.
As per the Union Government’s guidelines for declaring drought, we can declare areas as drought-affected.
According to the prescribed criteria,102 taluks are currently facing drought conditions. We will discuss the findings of the ground-truthing exercise in the Cabinet.
We are reviewing the situation every week.A comprehensive report will be submitted to the Union Government by the end of this month.”
Responding to a question on the Hanur case being handed over to the CID for investigation,he said, “Whenever such incidents occur and the government has any doubts,the matter is handed over to the CID.
This case has also been handed over in the same manner.There is nothing new in this.”
