A 45-year-old anesthetist was allegedly murdered inside his apartment in Dharwad,while his eight-year-old son sustained stab injuries in a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves across the city.
The victim,Dr.Kiran Honannavar,an anesthetist at Chirayu Hospital,was found lying in a pool of blood inside his sixth-floor apartment opposite Pawan High School, Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner N.Shashikumar said.
He further said Dr.Kiran’s wife,Dr.Priyanka Katanahalli,an ophthalmologist,and their son Nehith were present in the apartment at the time of the incident.The child suffered stab injuries and was rushed to hospital,where he is undergoing treatment.
According to investigators,relatives and friends who repeatedly tried contacting Dr.Kiran on Wednesday night and Thursday morning were allegedly told by Priyanka that he was either resting or had gone to work.
However,when family members reached the apartment, they found him dead.
“There were only three people inside the house—the husband,wife and child.There are no signs of forced entry.We need to investigate thoroughly what happened, what she told different people,and reconstruct the exact sequence of events.
Explaining further he said Dr.Priyanka appeared to be in a state of shock and gave incoherent responses during preliminary questioning. She has also been admitted to hospital for treatment.
A murder case has been registered.Investigators are examining CCTV footage from the apartment complex, collecting forensic evidence and recording statements from family members.
Police said the post-mortem examination will help establish the exact time and cause of Dr.Kiran’s death, while the investigation will determine the circumstances leading to the killing.
Later Commissioner of police Shashi Kumar said that priyanka has been taken into custody on suspicious she is not in her normal state of mind and giving incoherent statements the child is autistic and Injured in the attack no forced entry and she is giving different versions to different people.
