The Tumakuru police have arrested six persons including two students for allegedly supplying Ganja and Hydroponic cannabis to college students and the general public in the city,and seized narcotics and a luxury car worth a total of Rs.44.3 lakh.
Senior officer said the Tilak Park Police registered a case under Section 20(b)(ii)(B) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act based on credible information that the accused were attempting to sell ganja from a white car near Sheshadripuram College in Tumakuru on the evening of July 10.
Acting on the information,a special team constituted under the supervision of Tumakuru Superintendent of Police Ashok K.V,conducted an operation and arrested all six accused on July 11.The team was led by senior officers and personnel from the Tilak Park Police Station.
The arrested have been identified as:Satish C.(37),a milkman,Pramod Kumar(28),owner of packing material shop,Tumakuru,Dishanth R.(21),a BCA student from Tumakuru,Darshan(28),salesman at a showroom Tumakuru,Amogha Nagabhushan(31),a diploma student from Tumakuru and Manjunath (35),a resident of Bengaluru.
During the operation,police seized 1.655 kg of ganja valued at around Rs.2 lakh,23 grams of hydroponic cannabis worth approximately Rs.2.3 lakh,and a car valued at Rs.40 lakh.
The total value of the seized property is estimated at Rs.44.3 lakh.Police suspect the accused were supplying narcotic substances to college students and other consumers in Tumakuru.
Further investigation is underway to trace the source of the drugs and identify other members of the network.
