A final-year degree student allegedly died by suicide after jumping into Sankey Tank in Sadashivanagar after sending a message to her boyfriend indicating that she was going to end her life.
The deceased has been identified as Tejaswi,a student of a private college in Chikkabanavara.
Senior officer told reporters that she left her college on Sunday afternoon and later messaged her boyfriend saying that she was heading to Sankey Tank and intended to die.
Investigators said Tejaswi reached Sankey Tank at around 4 p.m.She reportedly left her bag near the lake entrance,kept her mobile phone inside it,and then entered the lake.
After receiving the message,the boyfriend informed Tejaswi’s family about it.Her mother subsequently alerted the Sadashivanagar police,following which police and family members launched a search operation.
Her body was recovered from the lake during the early hours of Monday.
Preliminary investigation indicates that Tejaswi had left college earlier in the day and was later seen at a bakery before arriving at Sankey Tank.
CCTV footage reportedly showed her walking around the lake premises for nearly two hours before she disappeared from view.
Family members said there had been an issue at her college around two weeks ago allegedly related to her relationship with her boyfriend.Police are questioning the boyfriend as part of the investigation.
Expressing concern over safety measures at the lake, Tejaswi’s uncle,Sunil,said there was inadequate security around the premises.
He also urged youngsters not to take extreme steps over personal setbacks,saying a momentary decision can destroy an entire family’s future.
The Sadashivanagar police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances leading to the death.
