Karnataka State Police Complaints Authority Member Mohan Kumar Danappa has written to the Director General of Police,Directorate of Civil Rights Enforcement (DCRE),urging the department to provide mandatory weekly holidays, special allowance and hardship allowance to personnel serving in DCRE police stations across the state.

In his letter,Danappa stated that 33 DCRE police stations were established across Karnataka after being notified as special police stations on April 14,2025, to ensure effective and speedy investigation of cases registered under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

He pointed out that despite functioning as regular police stations,DCRE units have inadequate staff strength while handling cases across entire districts.

Personnel are required to work under heavy workload, including on government holidays, following recent orders to keep DCRE police stations operational even on public holidays.

Danappa noted that unlike personnel in other police stations,DCRE staff are not being granted mandatory weekly holidays, special allowance or hardship allowance.

He also observed that other specialised police units, such as the Lokayukta police,do not function on government holidays, whereas DCRE personnel are expected to work throughout the week without additional benefits.

The letter further stated that the excessive workload is causing physical and mental stress among officers and staff, prompting many to seek transfers to other police stations or units.

It also noted that the lack of incentives has discouraged personnel from opting for deputation to DCRE police stations.

Seeking immediate intervention,Danappa requested the DGP to ensure that DCRE personnel are granted mandatory weekly holidays, special allowance and hardship allowance on par with staff serving in other police stations to improve their welfare and enable efficient policing.
