*From crisis management to proactive governance, Minister sets new framework for Bengaluru.
Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda has outlined a new approach to urban governance in Bengaluru, centred on more disciplined, systematic and outcome-oriented reviews of civic administration.
The Minister was addressing a meeting of senior GBA officials,including the Chief Commissioner, Commissioners of the five GBA regions and other senior officers.
The approach recognises that much of the city’s administration in the past has been driven by immediate crises and emerging issues, leaving limited scope for proactive planning and sustained follow-through.
The recent restructuring of the municipal corporation, however, provides a stronger legal and administrative framework to move towards more proactive, accountable and responsive governance.
At the heart of the new approach is a standardised performance-review framework, designed to establish clear expectations, track progress systematically and ensure that responsibilities at every level translate into measurable outcomes on the ground.
The Minister has also emphasised that administrative reform must begin from within by strengthening systems, improving coordination, fixing institutional gaps and creating greater accountability.
Only a stronger and more effective administrative machinery can consistently deliver the quality of governance that Bengaluru’s citizens expect and deserve.
The initiative assumes greater significance given Bengaluru’s role as the economic engine of Karnataka and one of India’s most important centres for investment, technology and exports.
Strengthening the city’s governance and delivery systems is therefore not merely a municipal priority, but an important economic imperative for both the state and the country.
