A dispute over releasing water to agricultural land allegedly turned violent after an elder brother shot his younger brother with a country-made single-barrel gun at Shettihalli village in Devanahalli taluk on Thursday afternoon.
The injured man,identified as Chetan,sustained serious bullet injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital.His condition is stated to be critical.
According to the police,the incident occurred around 3 pm following an argument between the brothers over irrigation water.
During the altercation,the accused,identified as Chandru, allegedly opened fire at Chetan from the house using a single-barrel gun before fleeing the scene.
Senior police officers,including Additional SP Venkatesh Prasanna and DySP Panduranga,visited the spot and inspected the scene.
Police said Chetan suffered multiple bullet injuries and has been shifted to a higher medical centre for advanced treatment.His health condition remains critical.
A search has been launched to trace and arrest Chandru,who is absconding.
Police added that no formal complaint had been registered at the time of briefing, as the victim was unconscious and family members had not yet approached the police.
A case will be registered once a complaint is received, and a special team has been formed to apprehend the accused.
