An 83-year-old man allegedly killed his wife before dying by suicide following a domestic dispute at a residence under the limits of Sampigehalli police station.
The deceased have been identified as Sumitra Prasad (77) and her husband Shivanandam Prasad (83),natives of Bihar.
Senior officer told reporters that the elderly couple had recently come from Bihar to stay at their son’s house in Bengaluru.
Sumitra was reportedly suffering from vision-related and heart ailments,while both were facing age-related health issues.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the couple had frequent arguments over health-related concerns.
On Monday night,after having dinner,they retired to their room.During the night,a quarrel allegedly broke out between them.
It is suspect that Shivanandam Prasad smothered his wife to death before taking his own life.The incident came to light when family members found the couple unresponsive.
Officers from Sampigehalli police station visited the scene and conducted an inspection.
The bodies were shifted to Dr.B.R.Ambedkar Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination.
A case has been registered,and further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the deaths.
