Karnataka State Police Complaints Authority Member Mohan Kumar Danappa has urged the State Government to provide 10 per cent reservation for serving Reserve Sub-Inspectors (RSIs) in the recruitment of Civil Police Sub-Inspectors (PSIs).

In a letter addressed to the Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department,Danappa said personnel serving in units such as the Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP),City Armed Reserve (CAR),District Armed Reserve (DAR) and Karnataka State Industrial Security Force (KSISF) possess extensive field experience and specialised training that can be effectively utilised in civil policing.

He noted that RSIs undergo training in riot control, internal security, anti-Naxal operations, bomb detection and disposal, commando operations and other specialised policing duties.

Despite their expertise and years of service, they currently do not have a dedicated quota in Civil PSI recruitment.

Danappa pointed out that a similar 10 percent reservation is already available for serving personnel in certain police recruitment categories, and extending the benefit to RSIs would boost morale and create career advancement opportunities within the force.

According to the representation, reserving a portion of Civil PSI posts for experienced RSIs would also reduce training costs and enable the police department to make better use of trained manpower, thereby improving operational efficiency.

He has requested the government to amend the relevant recruitment rules and provide 10 per cent reservation for serving RSIs in Civil PSI appointments through direct recruitment and departmental quota systems.

Such facilities are existed for resrve police constables and should be extended to RSIs too,he said .
