Woman allegedly smothered her two young children to death and later attempted suicide in a village in Kolar over family dispute

A 22-year-old woman allegedly smothered her two young children to death and later attempted suicide in a village in Kolar district,reportedly unable to cope with the trauma of her husband’s recent death on Wednesday .

The incident was reported from Alangur village in Mulbagal taluk.

The accused,identified as Bujjamma,a native of Andhra Pradesh,allegedly killed her daughter Saraswathi (3) and her one-year-old son Hemashri before attempting to end her own life by hanging .

Alert neighbours intervened and rescued the woman before she could complete the suicide attempt.She is currently under treatment.

Senior officer told reporters that the Bujjamma and her husband Babu,originally from Vinayakapuram in Andhra Pradesh,had been working at a mango orchard in Alangur for the past year.

Babu was killed in an accident in May 10,after which Bujjamma reportedly slipped into severe depression.

Investigators suspect that the woman took the extreme step due to emotional distress caused by her husband’s death.

A case has been registered at the Nangali police station, and further investigation is underway.
