The wife of a police constable attached to the HAL Police Station allegedly died by suicide following prolonged harassment linked to dowry demands and domestic abuse, police said on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Lakshmi Priya (26), who was married to Rajesh Aaradhya on May 11,2023,in Mysuru.
Rajesh Aaradhya is serving as a police constable at the HAL police station.
According to the complaint filed by Lakshmi Priya’s family, she was allegedly subjected to continuous mental and physical harassment by her husband Rajesh Aaradhya and his parents,Palaksharadhya and Bhagyamma, after the marriage.
The complainant alleged that the accused repeatedly pressured and tortured Lakshmi Priya, causing severe emotional distress.
Police said Lakshmi Priya had recently given birth to a baby girl and had stayed at her parental home for nearly six months post delivery.
On May 22,2026,at around 2.31 pm,Lakshmi Priya reportedly sent her mobile phone password to her younger sister Jayashree through WhatsApp.
Soon after, family members attempted to contact her,but she allegedly did not respond to their calls.
When the complainant later contacted Rajesh Aaradhya, he allegedly informed them that Lakshmi Priya had died.
During the preliminary investigation, police questioned neighbours, who reportedly spoke positively about the couple and their family.
Investigators suspect that an argument between the couple on the day of the incident may have driven the woman to take the extreme step.
Police officials also stated that no evidence of dowry-related harassment has surfaced so far,and they suspect the suicide may have steamed from an ongoing family dispute.
Based on the complaint, police registered a case under Sections 80(2), 85 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act. Further investigation is underway.
