A gang of armed men assaulted an Uber driver in the middle of a busy road causing panic among the road users,with the shocking incident captured on CCTV cameras.
The incident took place on May 22 on Double Road under Wilson Garden Police Station limits and came to light after the video of the assault went viral on social media.
Senior officer told reporters that the gang allegedly intercepted the Uber cab,blocked the vehicle on the road, and dragged the driver out before assaulting him.
The accused reportedly attacked the victim despite the presence of a young woman who was seated in the car .
She was forced out and made to stand nearby while the accused carried out the attack .
The exact motive behind the assault is yet to be ascertained.The CCTV footage recorded the incident , went viral .
It further said that although no formal complaint has been lodged so far,officers rushed to the spot after receiving information about the incident and conducted an inspection.
Treating the matter seriously,investigators have begun examining CCTV footage from K.H.Road and nearby areas to identify the accused involved in the attack.
Officials are also tracing the registration numbers of both the Uber cab and the vehicle allegedly used by the attackers as part of the ongoing investigation.
