A BMTC bus carrying around 55 passengers narrowly avoided a major tragedy after it crashed into the compound wall of the Field Marshal Manekshaw Parade Ground near Anil Kumble Circle on Saturday morning.

The bus, operating on Route 362 from Shivajinagar to Begur, reportedly developed a technical snag while navigating the busy stretch.

In an attempt to avoid colliding with other vehicles on the road, the driver steered the bus off course, eventually ploughing into the compound wall.

According to officials from the Cubbon Park Traffic Police, the vehicle is suspected to have suffered a brake failure, leading to the accident.

Despite the impact, all passengers, along with the driver and conductor, escaped without serious injuries.

However, three passengers sustained minor injuries, including skin abrasions.

The driver was subjected to a medical examination to rule out drunk driving, and preliminary findings suggest that a mechanical fault may have caused the mishap.

The impact caused minor damage to both the bus and the compound wall.Police have written to the Regional Transport Office (RTO) seeking a detailed inspection to determine whether the accident was due to a technical defect.

A case of rash and negligent driving has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
