The Lokayukta officials on Wednesday arrested a senior Karnataka Administrative Service (KAS) officer and his driver red handed while accepting a bribe for an official favour .
The duo had demanded a total demand of Rs.30 lakh in connection with a land-related matter in Bengaluru.
According to officials,the case has been registered under Sections 7(a) and 7A of the Prevention of Corruption Act,1988 (Amendment Act, 2018).
The complainant,Ravi Kumar (41),a resident of Attur in Yelahanka,had approached authorities alleging that a bribe was being demanded to secure a favourable order in a Revenue Tribunal (RRT) case pending before the Assistant Commissioner (North) office.
The accused officer,Nagaprashanth,KAS,serving as Special Assistant Commissioner (North) and Special Land Acquisition Officer-1 at KIADB, along with his outsourced driver Kumar,allegedly demanded Rs.30 lakh to clear the file.
Investigators said the driver had earlier accepted Rs.15 lakh on the instructions of the officer.On Wednesday,the driver again accepted the remaining Rs.15 lakh, following which a trap was laid and both accused were secured.
Both accused are currently in custody,and further investigation is underway to establish the full extent of the alleged corruption and any possible involvement of others.
